ETI TEK-NET Library Update
It has been three years since ETI introduced the on line version of the TEK-NET
Library. Currently the Library contains 11 GB of information in 17,891 files placed in 2,729
folders. These files are needed by tool and equipment companies to design and build their tools. By
indexing the library and creating a database for these documents it has become easier for ETI members to
access information. The library is updated as information comes in. Most of the information we
receive is collected during ETI Summer and Winter tech Weeks.
TEK-NET
Tips:
Your login:
Everyone has access to the library at some level.
Non-members have access to the index and file abstracts. If you are a full scan tool member of ETI in
good standing you may have access to the library's file system that allows you to download and print the
files. To inquire about access please contact Charlie Gorman at cgorman@etools.org for information on how to obtain a login. Please
include all of your contact information in the request email.
We would also like to remind member companies to let ETI
staff know when someone leaves your employ. We want to make sure that access to the data ceases at the
same time as termination.
If you have forgotten your password it is a bad idea to
guess what it might be. Because of the sensitivity of the information on the site we have a three
strikes and your out policy. If you do not get the password right 3 times in a row, you will be locked
out. If this happens to you, please send Charlie Gorman an email and I will reset your
password.
You can change your password anytime, but you must use at least
7 places and one must be a number and another must be a symbol like
"$".
Self checking corrupted
files:
Please continue to let ETI staff know if you encounter any
problems with files. We have run into corrupted files in the past. The OEMs are very good about
replacing these files when discovered. There is a way to check the DVD version of the file to see if just
your copy is bad or if the master file from the OEM is bad. Simply log in to the
library, select the OEM of interest, type or paste the file name
and download the on-line version from the abstract page. If you can open it, you have solved your
problem. If the master is corrupt, let staff know and we will get a replacement uploaded to the
library.
Checking for the latest version of a
file:
Ever wonder if you have the latest version of a file? Let’s use an
OEM database file as the search criteria. This time, instead of putting the entire file name in the
“orig file
name” search panel, just enter
".mdb".
When the results are displayed all the .mdb files will appear. From the list you can determine
version numbers and file dates. If you still aren't sure, you can open the file and check file
properties. (see figure below)
The Future of the
Library:
The TEK-NET library is a valuable resource. We
encourage its use and hope that it is providing the support necessary to allow you to bring always
improving products to the market place.
